2017 Percussion Syllabus AMEB's Percussion syllabus is printed in the hardcopy Manual of Syllabuses and is available as a digital download.

Repertoire

The repertoire for Level 1 (Preliminary to Grade 4) is included in the AMEB Series 1 grade books, which feature a broad variety of repertoire for each grade, by local and international composers. The repertoire for Level 2 and Level 3 is listed in the annual Manual of Syllabuses and in the downloadable Percussion syllabus. Repertoire items for these levels have been selected from extraordinarily diverse resources and will cater for a wide range of musical tastes.

Technical Work

The technical work for the syllabus features a number of custom-composed studies, which allow candidates to demonstrate various technical work items efficiently and in a musical context. These studies also reinforce the transferability of certain technical skills and percussion concepts between instruments - a major focus of the new syllabus.

All technical work for Preliminary to Grade 4 exams are laid out in the publication Percussion Technical work: Level 1 (2013)

All technical work for Grade 5 to Grade 8 exams are laid out in the publication Percussion Technical work: Level 2 (2013)

Recorded Accompaniments

AMEB now offers Recorded Accompaniments for use in study and examinations in early grades. Where AMEB Recorded Accompaniments are available, candidates may perform with those recordings in examinations. These piano accompaniments have been recorded as practice tools and for use in early grade AMEB examinations. They feature performances of the accompaniment part for pieces in the corresponding AMEB grade books and can be used in conjunction with the MyTempo app as a practice resource. AMEB encourages candidates and teachers to rehearse and perform with live accompanists wherever this is possible. Learn more

Recorded accompaniments are available in hardcopy CDs from AMEB's Online Shop and AMEB Preferred Retailers OR as individual or album downloads (see below) from major digital music outlets like iTunesGoogle Play & Spotify.
