Trumpet

 

Grades

Two new grades have been added to the syllabuse for examinations from 2020 - Preliminary and Certificate of Performance. 

From 2020 - Level 1 (Preliminary - 4th grades), Level 2 (5th - 8th grades) and Level 3 (Certificate of Performance - Licentiate diplomas).

 

Available until end of 2019 - Level 1 (1st - 4th grades), Level 2 (5th - 8th grades) and Level 3 (Associate - Licentiate diplomas).

 

Syllabus

Published in the Manual of Syllabuses and available as a digital download. The 2020 Manual of Syllabuses will be published in November 2019 and will inclcdue a newly revised Trumpet Syllabus included two new exams - Preliminary and Certificate of Performance. 

2019 Trumpet Syllabus

 

Grade books

Trumpet Series 2 grade books will be available from November 18th for Preliminary to Grade 4. Orchestral Brass Trumpet Series 1 grade books and Brass Series 1 grade books for all Level 1 grades (except Preliminary) will still be examinable from 2020 in conjunction with the new Series 2 publications. 

   

 

Technical Work

Candidates are to consult the Technical Work requirements in either the new Trumpet Technical work & orchestra excerpts (2019) or old Horn and Trumpet: Technical Work. Candidates will be asked by the examiner which Techincal Work publications the candidate has prepared. Horm and Trumpet: Technical Work will only be examinable for Trumpet players until the end of 2021. 

  

 

Sight Reading

Candidates may prepare for Sight Reading tests with Trumpet Sight-reading & transposition or Brass Sight Reading.

  

 

Orchestral excerpts

Candidates may select orchestral excepts from Brass Orchestral Excerpts for presentation at examination.

 

Arban method for Trumpet

There are several editions of the Arban Method book with different numberings and page numbers. To help identify the correct works, use the following links that correctly point to the exercises listed in the syllabus. Then compare the correct exercise to your own edition of the Arban method.
