Fellowship in Music Australia

AMEB is pleased to have launched the new Fellowship in Music Australia award, available from 1 January 2020.

What is the Fellowship in Music Australia?

The Fellowship is the highest and most prestigious award offered by AMEB.

It can be undertaken in any instrument available for examination in the current edition of the AMEB Manual of syllabuses (Music syllabuses) including Voice.

The Fellowship examination takes the form of a public recital. The candidate will be expected to choose a full recital programme, of approximately 80 minutes’ music content (60 minutes’ music content in the case of Brass, Woodwind and Singing).

A performance at this level should reveal excellence in all areas, an ability to engage an audience over the entire programme, mastery and command of techniques and stylistic elements, and other characteristics displayed to an outstanding level.

Candidates should refer to the relevant pages in the Manual of Syllabuses for further information. The link below provides a downloadable copy of the page of the Manual specifically addressing the Fellowship in Music Australia award. Candidates should note that there are Regulations and Requirements detailed in other areas of the Manual which are also relevant.

How do I enter for the Fellowship?

The Fellowship features a three-step application process.

An overview of the application process is provided below. Please refer to the relevant pages in the Manual of Syllabuses for full details including assessment, timelines and other requirements.

It is important to note that the process from entry to examination may take 12 months. Further, the recital will be arranged by the relevant AMEB State Office according to their own regulations. We therefore ask that you contact your State Office for more information about the process and enrolment closing dates before you begin the Fellowship entry process.

Before you can begin the application process, you will need to register your interest in the Fellowship:

-       If AMEB SCORE is being used in your state, go to your AMEB SCORE website and log in as Account Holder. If you don’t already have an account, click “Register now” and follow the prompts. Once logged in, select "Fellowship in Music Australia Exam" from the dashboard. Follow the instructions on the next page, taking care to complete all steps to ensure your registration is successful.

-       For all other states, go to the AMEB Online Learning & Exams website and log in as Account Holder. If you don’t already have an account, follow the links to register as an Account Holder. Then select Fellowship in Music Australia and follow the instructions, taking care to complete all steps to ensure your registration is successful.

You can then proceed to Step 1 of the application process.

Step 1 - Programme submission:

You must submit your proposed Fellowship programme, together with timings, for approval by AMEB. This will need to be done online, either via the SCORE system if used in your state, or via the AMEB Online Learning & Exams website. Step 1 will appear on screen once you have completed your registration as outlined above.

Step 2 - Video audition:

Following approval of the programme, you must submit a video recording of a performance of your entire programme, for approval by AMEB.  This is a key stage in the entry process and will determine whether you are offered the opportunity to enrol for the Fellowship examination. Video recordings should be submitted online, again either via SCORE where applicable or via the AMEB Online Learning & Exams website. A fee will be charged for Step 2.

Step 3 - Enrolment for examination:

You must enrol for the Fellowship recital examination with your AMEB State Office within 12 months of the approval of your video audition. A fee will be charged.
