Silver Qualification

Please read the AMEB Award policy first for more details. 

As a Silver participant, you’re expected to achieve or have previously achieved, a minimum of an AMEB Grade 5 (or above) exam.

AMEB Award Qualifications include Comprehensive and Repertoire, For Leisure, Rockschool, Speech & Drama, PAA, or CQ syllabuses.

If you’ve already successfully completed your Grade 5 (or above) exam, this can count toward your Award. If you haven't taken the exam yet, you will have a maximum of 12 months from enrolling in the Award to complete it successfully.

Silver Performances

Please read the AMEB Award policy first for more details. 

The Silver AMEB Award encourages you to increase your performing experience.

As a Silver participant, you must do three public Performances within 12 months of enrolment. You can perform solo or in an ensemble with others, but each Performance must have at least five people in the audience.

Performance examples

• Music ensemble performances (choir, orchestra, band, chamber group etc.)
• Solo instrumental or vocal performances
• Eisteddfods, festivals, competitions
• Musical Theatre productions
• Dance concerts (solo or group)
• Theatre performances (solo or group)
• Debating
• Speeches and poetry recitals.

At least one of these Performances must be in your nominated discipline. Your nominated discipline is the discipline (or instrument) you use for your AMEB Qualification. You can do the other two performances on any in any performing arts discipline (or instrument).

How does this work in practice?

For example, Linh is learning vocals for her Grade 5 Rockschool Vocals exam, is the school musical lead and learning Jazz dance while doing her Silver AMEB Award!

• The school musical, where Linh sings in the lead role, counts as her Performance in her nominated discipline.
• Linh also performs two Jazz dance concerts to achieve her other two Performance requirements.

Silver Contribution Activities

Please read the AMEB Award policy first for more details. 

Silver Contribution Activities aren't performances. They are your chance to showcase your valuable skills beyond playing an instrument, dancing, or acting. These behind-the-scenes contributions of time demonstrate your committed support to the performing arts community beyond just performing.

As a Silver participant, you'll need to complete four Contribution Activities, which should total at least 16 hours of direct involvement. We recommend you complete your Contribution Activities over a period of at least six months to show your ongoing commitment to your performing arts community.

You’ll need to record your hours spent on each activity. An easy way to keep track of your minimum hour requirement is to download and fill in the Contribution Activity Log available through SCORE. Your supervisor may want to check this before approving your activity.

To qualify as a Contribution Activity, a task or activity must align with one of the core values of the AMEB Award:

• Leadership 
• Community 
• Creativity 
• Collaboration 
• Entrepreneurship 
• Assistance & Support

At least one of your Contribution Activities must fall under the Leadership category.

Silver Contribution Activity Examples

• Create a music club or group with your peers or community
• Craft a performance art piece (e.g., choreograph, storyboard, screenwrite, direct or compose new work)
• Fundraise for your performing arts community, or support fundraising activities
• Help advertise or promote performing arts events or performances
• Undertake the music or drama captain role in your school or undertake the tasks usually consistent with this type of role. You can list the tasks undertaken in your description.
• Volunteer to improve the well-being of others in your community (perform at nursing homes, hospitals or other community events etc.)
• Write a review of a performance or body of work (e.g., an album review, a movie review, a concert review, a review of a play, a review of an exhibition etc.)

How does this work in practice?

For example, Linh focuses on her school's musical and Jazz dance studio to complete her Contribution Activities by:

• helping her school musical’s director by clearing the stage and getting it ready for rehearsal each week,
• giving her time to run an extra rehearsal for younger actors in the musical who are struggling with their steps,
• taking on the role of photography monitor at her dance studio, organising the other dancers for dress rehearsal photos,
• Volunteered her time to help promote performances by designing posters and invitations for her studio’s dance performances.

Silver AMEB Award Supervisors

Please read the AMEB Award policy first for more details. 

An AMEB Award supervisor is someone teaching, working with or coaching you during your participation in the Silver AMEB Award.

Any responsible adult can be your Award supervisor, provided they can confirm you completed your Performances and/or Contribution Activities as described. You can choose one person for every activity or different people for each - it's up to you!

Supervisors should read the AMEB Award Supervisor Guide before agreeing to this role.

Bronze Qualification

• Ahmed can then combine orchestra concerts and choir performances to achieve his other two required Performances.

How does this work in practice?

For example, Ahmed supports his school’s orchestra and choir for his Contribution Activities by:

• Making sure there are always enough music stands in the music room before orchestra rehearsal
• Takes responsibility for distributing the correct section parts to his choir peers.

Bronze AMEB Award Supervisors
