An end of year message from our CEO Bernard Depasquale

AMEB Federal Office

With 2022 almost behind us, it seems timely to reflect on the year that has been and the year to come. Certainly, 2022 hasn’t been an easy year for many of us. As we take steps toward returning to ‘normal’, I know many of us are still coming to terms with the complex and multifaceted impact of COVID on our families, friends, schools and workplaces.

In light of this, I would like to congratulate every AMEB candidate who invested time, energy and emotion into their performing arts education over the past 12 months. Whether you have performed repertoire, taken an exam or simply practised your scales, your continued dedication and commitment are worthy of praise.

In acknowledging our learners, I’d also like to recognise the tireless role that parents, caregivers and significant others have played in supporting them to achieve this.

And, of course, I can’t reflect on the year without giving heartfelt thanks to the incomparable community of teachers who bring our AMEB syllabuses to life for learners across the globe.

For the AMEB Federal team, it has been a year of change. We relocated our administration office and warehouse operations, updated our enrolment management system SCORE, and continued to develop our operations in Vietnam. We were also thrilled to take our first steps back to face-to-face engagement with our communities at events like AUSTA Conference and presenting the first AMEB International Teaching Course in Vietnam. Not to mention releasing a suite of new publications.

On a more personal note, I have found it heartening to see our performing arts and cultural sectors re-bound this year. Moments that have mattered the most include sitting in a live audience again, witnessing professional ensembles (such as the astounding Z.E.N. Trio) and developing players (such as members of Melbourne Youth Orchestra) demonstrating their skill and passion on stage. Continuing to welcome new players into the industry has also been delightful. My personal musical highlight of the year was accompanying my granddaughter in her Grade 1 Violin exam and reconnecting with the AMEB community, contacts and my family.

I hope this festive season brings you similar moments of joy.
