Introducing AMEB's new Teaching syllabuses
We know when a student steps into your teaching studio, something magical can happen.
The dynamic between a dedicated music teacher and an engaged student is unique, rewarding and priceless. But we also know teaching isn’t easy. It can be challenging and isolated, especially for independent studio music teachers.
That’s why we’ve developed our new AMEB Teaching Syllabuses. So you can learn from the best, embrace those challenges, and be inspired to create that magic.
Our Certificate Teacher of Music Australia (CTMusA) and Associate Teacher of Music Australia (ATMusA) have been developed by Australian and international researchers and practitioners in music education.
You’ll gain the knowledge and tools to build or deepen your practice, and establish self-reflective skills so you can continue to grow as a teacher – now and into the future.
Why invest in your music teaching?
Because the best teachers never stop learning.
Maybe you’re seeking direction as an accomplished musician new to studio teaching.
Maybe you want to bring the latest music pedagogy into your established studio teaching practice.
Maybe you simply want to fall in love with teaching again.
The CTMusA and ATMusA are ideal for studio music teachers across all instruments and voice, at all levels.
Which syllabus is right for me?
Certificate Teacher of Music Australia
A great place to start if you:
- - want to build foundational studio teaching skills
- - are new to teaching or early in your career
- - don't have any formal education or pedagogical training
- - are seeking a studio teaching qualification that parents and students can trust
- - want to feel confident in your teaching practice.
Associate Teacher of Music Australia
A great choice if you:
- - are an experienced studio teacher
- - want to bring the latest research in music education to your studio teaching
- - have a CTMusA or other teaching qualification
- - want to upskill to help your students reach a higher level of success
- - are seeking a fresh perspective on teaching.
It is important to recognise we've designed these teaching syllabuses especially for independent studio music teachers. They are not initial teacher education programs and do not provide a pathway to classroom teaching in schools. You'll need to complete an accredited teaching course to qualify for teacher registration in your state or territory.
What will I learn?
Certificate Teacher of Music Australia
Build lifelong music teaching skills, so you, your students and their parents can have confidence in your teaching ability.
The CTMusA aims to develop the ability of instrumental and vocal teachers to teach with confidence.
It provides a core foundation for teachers working with AMEB syllabuses, while offering an additional source of training for teachers who wish to develop their proficiency and confidence.
The syllabus has been specifically designed to assist teachers who have not previously undertaken formal study to develop strategies that can be applied in their specialist teaching area and provides a basis for further study towards the ATMusA.
Associate Teacher of Music Australia
Integrate the latest international music pedagogy into your teaching practice, to improve student success, both now and in the future.
The ATMusA aims to refine the existing skills, knowledge and overall teaching ability of instrumental and vocal music teachers.
As well as leading to the award of a prestigious diploma, the ATMusA syllabus offers an additional source of training and professional learning for teachers who aspire to further develop their teaching proficiency.
The syllabus is suitable for teachers who work with students at various stages of learning, from Preliminary through to Grade 8. The ATMusA syllabus is designed to build on the knowledge and skills developed in the CTMusA.
