Thank you for visiting the AMEB Federal Office website.
The Australian Music Examinations Board is a federated structure. The State Offices administer all aspects of the examinations and the Federal Office operates in following areas:
- development of syllabuses (Music (all instruments) & Speech and Drama);
- development and production of publications supporting the syllabuses;
- the setting of examinations for all written papers;and
- examining of practical Diplomas: LMusA, FMusA, and FSDA.
General News
The AMEB publishes in its current Manual of Syllabuses a section on changes, updates, and amendments relating to Syllabuses, Publications and examinations for the coming year. This year News 2009 contains information on the newly released syllabuses and Publications for Piano, Clarinet and Saxophone. It also contains information on changes to Music Craft, Theory of Music, Musicianship and Guitar, as well changes to regulations 13 and 19(c).

General Knowledge Guidelines
General Knowledge Guidelines have been developed for all three levels of the practical music syllabuses. It is highly recommended that teachers and students familiarise themselves with these guidelines which were implemented in 2006.
Speech Syllabuses
Amendment to Regulation 17 – Additional and Prerequisites Requirements
The applicable table for regulation 17 was omitted from the 2007-2008 Speech Manual. Regulation 17 was amended in 2005 to allow prerequisites for the old ASDA/LSDA, to be transferable to the new ADPA/LDPA. Click amended Regulation 17 to read the complete regulation 17.

I just called to say I love you has been omitted from the CPM Manual in error and is examinable.
Set Works
References and grades will be added progressively and can be found under the relevant syllabus and grade.
The general reference works listed on pages xii and xiii of the Manual of Syllabuses should be consulted as a matter of course when first approaching the set works. Candidates are encouraged to use the references listed below as a starting point for their own further research.

A Guide to BWV Numbers
Candidates and teachers may find the following guide to the Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis (Bach works catalogue) numbers for the preludes and fugues of Das wohltemperirte Clavier (‘The well-tempered Clavier’). The BWV system is the standard scholarly catalogue for the numbering of Bach’s works.

The AMEB Syllabus Review Process is a consultative approach to syllabus development. We seek input from teachers, examiners, students and parents. Consequently, a new syllabus takes time to develop.
